Reviews of the Disney/NFL t-shirt collaboration

Steelers fans who don't like Bootleg Pete are probably from the "north hills"

Reviews of the Disney/NFL t-shirt collaboration

I used to write a newsletter called If I Could Give It No Stars I Would where I shared unhinged reviews from Google Maps — long stories about a time a guy got into a fight with a security guard at a Safeway, a series of angry reviews on a graveyard that appeared to all be from the same family. I returned to this topic on a recent issue of Mere Being, by sharing a few reviews of the new Disney Champions NFL Collection, a series of apparel that pairs each NFL team with a select Disney character. I want to explore this world further here.

I both don't know why this product exists and understand exactly and instantly why it exists. It is obviously insane and I am immediately struck by consumer lust for several of these artifacts. Luckily the one for My Team holds no such luster. If I was a Bills fan or a Ravens fan or a Cardinals fan I would be buying this nonsense immediately.

Not everyone is as happy. Here's a Niners fan with a single star.

Baymax and Antman are both from the SF and you give the 49ers Stinky Pete? Super disappointed. Even Ironman is Red and Gold

Texans fans are similarly dissatisfied.

Embarrassing choice of Disney character. We should have gotten spiderman. Makes no sense why we got that and Dallas got woody. So bad

Most of the shirts on get one or two stars, but the Colts fans are mad. This shirt has 11 reviews and an average of 1.7 stars. A selection:

Looks like crap. Couldn’t have found a better horse? I’m a colts fan and I would never wear this
Truly of all the horses in Disney you pick Horace. Obviously someone at Disney hates the COLTS.
Denver doesn’t deserve Maximus. We ride at dawn.
They never give the colts good merch ever, always giving the short end of the stick
Why would they do Horace for the Colts and not Pegasus or Lightning McQueen. Nobody knows who this is and it is by far the worse out of the NFL collabs. This was a terrible idea.

Some context here: The NFL has three teams that are technically represented by a horse, so one of them has to be a deep cut.

Pittsburgh has, by far, the most written reviews. The opinion is much more mixed. The overall rating is 3.7.

There are, of course, the dissatisfied, who are forced to give a single star.

Poor choice every one else got popular characters and we get “Pete”
The disrespect is off the charts. You had so many options for the Steelers and this is who you pick? You dont know the Steelers, you dont know Pittsburgh and it would seem, you dont even know the choices you have on hand.

But more thoughtful Steelers fans see the appeal.

When I first saw this I was surprised and disappointed. Disney has so many “cool” “tough” characters I was initially sad we didn’t get a more traditionally BA character. Then I thought about Pete and his turn from villain and antagonist to popular character. I mean cmon he could be like five of my uncles and 50 of my neighbors.
Y’all mad but the shirt is literally sold out. Clearly Pete is an absolute goat
Rating a shirt low because your feelings are hurt is wild. Only true Steelers fans will know how Pete is also very fitting. Sure Iron Man also makes sense but something tells me yellow just isn’t his color. Pete for the win!
A great character to represent our Mon Valley. Haters are probably from the north hills
FYI Petes Mom Maw Pete is a Pittsburgh native as per old comics hes in, and you cant tell me you havent met a yinzer thats exactly like him
People are crying over who they chose and maybe if they knew some history they’d know Pete is from Pittsburgh. Shirt is sold out and speaks volumes versus the people complaining. True Yinzers don’t cry about things like that.

I particularly like going to "history" here. "Lore accuracy" should be a factor in more reviews of promotional t-shirts.
